Biographical / Historical
As part of its celebratory offerings in 1976, the Deadwood-Lead ’76 Centennial Committee inaugurated a style show of historical fashions under the leadership of Allegra Aldrich, Marion Keehn, and Mrs. Robert Ruth. The show, in which local residents modeled historic and historically accurate replica clothing from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, was presented to conventions meeting in the Northern Black Hills during the centennial year. One public showing was also offered. Through the 1980s and 1990s, the style shows were performed for local meetings, conventions, and public gatherings. In 2013, a show was performed in coordination with the grand opening of the Days of ’76 Museum’s new building. The historic clothing used in the style shows, the Centennial Clothing Collection, was owned by the Deadwood Chamber of Commerce before being transferred to the Adams Museum. It is now owned by the Days of ’76 Museum.
